The N.L.P.O.A.

The National Latino Peace Officer's Association began in the early 1970's in California by two men that wanted to increase the number of Latinos in law enforcement and law enforcement fields. Through their hard work and determination the N.L.P.O.A. has become one of the largest Latino law enforcement  associations in the United States with chapters from California to New York.

Today the N.L.P.O.A. members consist of Peace Offices from Federal, State and Local levels through out the country. Membership is also available to non-peace officers as Associate members.

Goals of the N.L.P.O.A.

The Goals of the association are to promote equality and professionalism in law enforcement. Eliminate prejudice and discrimination in the Criminal Justice System (particularly law enforcement). Create a fraternal/professional association that  provide support, advocacy, personal and professional development to its members. Prevent and reduce juvenile delinquency and lessen neighborhood tension in the Latino communities through awareness and role model programs.  Though the N.L.P.O.A. was originally organized to benefit Latinos, THE N.L.P.O.A. DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE AGAINST ANY INDIVIDUAL BECAUSE OF RACE, COLOR, SEX OR RELIGION AND MEMBERSHIP IS OPEN TO ANYONE.

Community Projects

Scholarship Program : The interest in youth has prompted this chapter to sponsor a variety of fund raising functions to raise money for scholarships to help young people interested in entering the criminal justice system.

Christmas Program: Christmas toy drives have been a traditional project on a yearly basis for the under privileged and needy throughout the community.

Youth Program: The interest in youth has also prompted the donations and activities by several members in little league team sports for children that might otherwise be at risk in the community.

Tutoring: The L.P.O.A. encourages members to participate in established tutoring programs that are in place at local elementary schools assisting children. Helping our future is an important part in future success.

The Logo

The figure is of ancient Indian origin. It represents the Indian heritage of all Latinos that unites us. The seven point star surrounding the figure stands for law Enforcement, reminding members that we are twice bound to work together- by blood and by profession.
